Sako ARG 40 Gas piston series is based on the short-stroke gas-piston system. It makes the rifle more robust in arctic, undersea and muddy environments. The bolt carrier group also remains cooler and cleaner during firing, enabling prolonged firing sequences in adverse conditions. The piston system is also more suppressor friendly, enabling less gas blowback to the operator.

True ambidextrous controls ensure seamless operation for both left-handed and right-handed users. This feature includes ambidextrous safety selectors, magazine releases, and bolt catch mechanisms, allowing for intuitive and efficient handling regardless of the user's dominant hand. The ergonomic design ensures that all critical functions can be accessed and operated with ease, enhancing the rifle's usability and effectiveness in high-stress situations.

Sako ARG 40 GP rifles are tested according to NATO D14 standards, ensuring consistent functionality in adverse arctic, sandy, and muddy environments. Its mechanical operation is specifically engineered to deliver uninterrupted performance under conditions where reliability is mission-critical. Our rigorous testing procedures push these rifles to their limits, guaranteeing dependable performance during operational use. At the same time, we closely collaborate with operators, continuously gathering valuable insights into the diverse scenarios the rifle may encounter and the conditions it must withstand in real-world situations.

The ARG 40 GP series feature a match grade two- stage trigger unit. This offers very predictable breakpoint for every shot which make rifle consistent and safe to use. The length from pressure to release, how each bit of travel feels—all of that is the same, every time. In the ARG S 40 GP series of rifles, the suffix S denotes a match-grade semiauto-only trigger unit.

Sako ARG 40 DI platform is currently available with multiple barrel length configurations from 11,5" – 16” for CQB use and versatile patrol duties. We provide various barrel lengths optimized for the end user's unique tactical objectives. This flexibility ensures our rifles precisely match unit demands. ARG 40 barrels are chrome lined for heavy duty performance.
