Good Governance
Diligent governance structures support responsible decision-making at every level — from strategy to daily operations.
Sustainability Governance
Sustainability is embedded in Sako's strategic leadership. Our operations are built on clear objectives, defined responsibilities, and documented ways of working.
HOW WE DELIVER IT
We particularly focus on:
Integrating sustainability as a part of our management system
A clear definition of responsibilities between the board, management and the organization
Committing to ethical principles and conduct
Strict compliance with legislation and industry regulation
· Strengthening supply chain management · Offering a confidential, anonymous and independent reporting channel Sustainability is not a separate program — it is part of our normal management and risk governance system.
Sustainability governance model
Following the organizational restructure carried out in spring 2025, the leadership of sustainability work was centralized within the HR, Communications and Sustainability unit.
The Board approves strategic directions
The Management Team sets targets and steers practical operations
The Sustainability Working Group is responsible for embedding themes across the organization
Every employee has their own role in sustainability work
Ethical principles and compliance
Our Code of Conduct guides our business and defines ethical principles for the entire organization. The principles cover, among other things:
anti-bribery and anti-corruption practices
management of conflicts of interest
fair competition principles
data protection
export control
We operate in a strictly regulated industry, where compliance and transparency are an absolute foundation for everything we do.
Export control and regulatory collaboration
The manufacture of firearms and ammunition is a licensed and authority-supervised activity. We work closely with authorities and strictly comply with national and international licensing procedures. Our role in securing national supply as part of Finland's defence capability underlines the importance of good governance.
Supply chain management
Our suppliers play a key role in achieving our sustainability targets.
We expect our suppliers to adhere to the principles concerning human rights, safe working conditions, environmental responsibility and legislation. Supply chain management is continuously developed as part of our sustainability governance.
Whistleblowing channel
We provide a confidential whistleblowing channel through which potential misconduct can be reported safely and anonymously.
Reports are handled independently, and whistleblowers are protected from retaliation.
Standards and certifications
Our operations are guided by international quality, environmental and safety standards as well as industry-specific requirements.
Alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
The most material topics of our governance responsibility are connected to UN Sustainable Development Goal 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
